Marc Marquez Triumphs Again at French MotoGP Sprint, Brother Alex Follows

Marc Marquez extended his dominance in the 2025 MotoGP sprint races by winning his sixth consecutive sprint at the French MotoGP in Le Mans on Saturday. Once again, his younger brother Alex Marquez followed in second place, maintaining a familiar family one-two finish.

The Spanish rider, representing the Ducati factory team, reclaimed the top spot in the world championship standings, overtaking his brother with his latest victory. After the race, Marquez expressed his satisfaction, saying, “I was riding well, let’s see if we can finish the job tomorrow (in Sunday’s main race) – ‘merci beaucoup’.” The checkered flag was waved by cycling legend Mark Cavendish, adding a special touch to the triumph.

Home favorite Fabio Quartararo started from pole position after breaking the lap record during qualifying. However, despite a promising start, the Yamaha rider struggled to maintain his pace and ultimately crossed the line in fourth place. Reflecting on the race, Marquez noted, “Fabio was super fast at the start, I was pushing a lot and said to myself ‘I can’t follow him’.” As Quartararo’s pace waned, Marquez found his rhythm and surged ahead.

In the early laps, Quartararo led the race, delighting the local fans as he managed to hold off both Marquez brothers. However, Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia crashed out on lap two while trying to keep pace with the leaders. As the race progressed, Marc Marquez overtook Quartararo on lap four and maintained his lead, with Alex Marquez securing second place after passing Quartararo on lap eight.

Alex Marquez, riding a Ducati satellite Gresini bike, expressed his happiness with his consistent performance, stating, “Really happy to be second, another P2!” Meanwhile, Gresini teammate and rookie Fermin Aldeguer claimed his first sprint podium by finishing third. After the race, Aldeguer inadvertently collided with Marc Marquez’s rear wheel during the cool-down lap, but the incident caused no harm, and Marc warmly congratulated the young Spaniard with a hug.

The race marked another successful outing for the Marquez brothers, as Marc heads into Sunday’s main race with 151 points in the riders’ standings, just two points ahead of Alex. The consistent one-two finishes have not only reinforced Marc’s championship lead but also showcased the growing prowess of his brother in the sprint format.

Sunday’s main race promises another thrilling battle as Marc aims to continue his undefeated sprint record while Alex seeks to challenge for his first sprint victory of the season.
